Welcome to Derek Simpson Golf
Advanced PGA Qualified Senior PGA Professional based at Aston Wood Golf Complex
My mission is simple - to help golfers of all abilities attain their own goals - whether that be reaching a very low handicap for the advanced golfer, to get a young person into enjoying the game or helping a beginner really develop into a sound player who can hold their own in that local club game. I am professional, approachable and friendly and ensure that a clear plan is developed to work to attainable goals.
I turned Professional in 1986 at Parklands Golf Club in Northumberland where I coached thousands of golfers at a very busy 45 bay double deck driving range. In Sept 1993 I moved to The Belfry Hotel & Resort for the Ryder Cup tournament that year. As Senior Golf Professional, my role was to build a coaching facility and draw in local golfers to enhanced coaching and associated golf services. From a base of very low levels of local customers, I expanded the business by 500% engaging with local residents, schools and businesses through an active marketing campaign to raise awareness of the enhanced coaching approach. Having a real passion for getting young golfers into the game, I established and developed the largest Junior Golf Foundation coaching scheme in the uk with almost 600 junior golfers enrolled onto weekly sessions.
My experience in the game is both broad and deep, as an Advanced PGA Golf Professional, I have worked with some of the top coaches in the UK and adopt an approachable style to coaching which is accessible and popular with golfers of all abilities. At a professional level, I have coached the Warwickshire, Staffordshire & Derbyshire county squads in both ladies, gents and junior sections with many pupils turning professional themselves.
.Having observed many of the most famous golfers and coaches in the world, with experience of walking the fairways within major tournaments, I have witnessing the pressure and approaches to this that top Professionals adopt to maintain focus and discipline. All of these experiences have contributed to my ability to help golfers of all abilities develop their game and enhance enjoyment of playing the game. All too often practice during coaching sessions can’t be maintained in play, which is something through practice drills, mindfulness in playing and simple routines I can help my pupils avoid.
Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, Rory Mcllroy, Thomas Bjorne, are just a few of the top players that I have met and talked to in order to really understand their approaches. I have been fortunate to caddie at the Wentworth BMW Pro-Am for the past 2 years in 2018 & 2019 and also coached my son to participate in the Dunhill Links Tournament in 2019.
